SAFE-ICU COST Action Management Committee Meeting Held in Dublin, Ireland
The SAFE-ICU COST Action Management Committee Meeting, hosted by Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), was held on 23–24 March 2026 in Dublin, Ireland.
Within the scope of the SAFE-ICU COST Action, Management Committee members from different countries came together to review ongoing activities, assess progress across work packages, and discuss strategic plans for the upcoming period. This important meeting is expected to further strengthen international collaboration and contribute significantly to ongoing work in the field of intensive care.
On the first day, Natalie Mc Evoy opened the meeting in her role as Action Chair of the SAFE-ICU COST Action. Tom O’Connor, President of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel, delivered an excellent presentation. Nurten Özen, a core group member and Science Communication Coordinator of the Action, presented ongoing work on communication channels and outlined future plans. Dr. Pedro Arévalo Buitrago, a core group member and grant awarding coordinator, published the grant holders and give information about the process.
The associations and collaborations established within SAFE-ICU—particularly those focusing on patient safety in intensive care units—represent not only cooperation but also strong partnerships built on trust, shared values, and a common vision. Key contributions were highlighted from Zaneta Bogoevska Miteva, President of the European Federation of Critical Care Nursing Associations; Margo Van Mol, Board Member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine; and Adriano Friganović, President of the European Specialist Nurses Organisations.
On the second day, working group leaders presented their activities carried out with their members. The meeting concluded with closing remarks by the Vice Chair. Core group members of the SAFE-ICU COST Action also came together to evaluate the strategic direction of the project and enhance the effectiveness of ongoing activities.
During the meeting, the critical importance of cost-effectiveness, patient safety, and the development of sustainable healthcare services in intensive care units was emphasized. The long-term impact of ongoing work in these areas on healthcare systems was also discussed.
SAFE-ICU COST Action continues its activities with determination to improve healthcare quality, optimize resource use, and strengthen scientific collaboration.
